US President Donald Trump has made no progress in the Ukraine Russia peace talks since taking to the Oval Office in January. He now says Washington will ‘take a pass’ on continuing talks if the two countries make it difficult to reach a peace deal.
The US has been pushing Ukraine and Russia to reach a deal but to no avail. Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, told reporters Washington would abandon talks unless there were clear signs of progress. He said they will not go on like this for weeks and months on end, adding that the US has other priorities.
On April 18, President Trump made it clear that if one of the two parties makes it very difficult, the United States will just take a pass. In the initial days, he had been very confident of securing a full ceasefire and a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, but it didn’t suffice. The Trump administration failed to get any major concession from Russian President Vladimir Putin despite repeated negotiations with Moscow.

No Deal Ukraine Russia Conflict
The Kremlin has made it clear it will not accept a permanent freeze on the ongoing conflict with Ukraine as it will only lead to renewed hostilities. It highlighted that Kiev was untrustworthy given its multiple violations on strikes against energy infrastructure.
Dmitry Peskov, Russian spokesperson, said the Kremlin is committed to resolving the conflict but added that ongoing negotiations to secure peace is difficult.
