Michelle Obama Brushes Off Divorce Rumors, Making Her Own Decisions

Date:

Michelle Obama has put the rumour mill to a grinding halt, dismissing speculations that she and her husband former President Barack Obama are headed toward a divorce. In a recent podcast interview, the former first lady acknowledged that gossip has been churning because of her absence from two major public events in January – former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

She attributed her absence at Carter’s funeral to a scheduling conflict but did not explain missing the inauguration. Michelle Obama’s dislike for President Trump is evident given the fact that he promoted the lie that Barack Obama was not a US citizen. Her absence from the inauguration was seen as a break from tradition.

Michelle Obama, 61, highlighted that since leaving the White House in 2017, she is now in a position to control her calendar as a ‘grown woman’. She pointed out that people were not able to believe the fact that she was deciding for herself.

“This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that is what society does to us,” Michelle Obama said. “Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of ‘Who do I truly want to be every day?’” She highlighted that she no longer occupies the White House and her two daughters are now adults.

Michelle Obama shared that she has become more reflective about how she spends her time.

Barack Obama Prioritizes Michelle Obama and His Girls

Former US President Barack Obama is spending more time doing fun things with his wife Michelle Obama and his daughters Malia Obama, 26, and Sasha Obama, 23, after two consecutive terms in the White House.

At a recent event in Hamilton College, Obama said he was in a deep deficit with his wife. “So I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things.”
